On Wednesday March 11th, my school was cancelled for the foreseeable future. Right now, they are saying 2 weeks, but no one really knows.
I feel like it would be easy to go crazy, easy to get bored, and lose my mind. The thing is, however, I have actually found things that occupy my time!
Keep in mind, I have a very short attention span. I switch activities very often… that’s why it seems like I have done SO MUCH in the last 2 or 3 days.
On day one, when I got home from school, I instantly started writing short stories from prompts I found online. I love writing, and before I knew it, four or five hours had passed! I was sitting in the same spot, working on the same story.
Thursday:
On Thursday, I primarily worked on writing more. I went to workout, cooked some breakfast, and worked on homework (even though it isn’t due) just to occupy myself. I also deep cleaned my entire room. More on that later.
Friday:
On Friday, we fostered a new puppy from Guiding Eyes for the Blind. We participated in their training & socialization puppy program. We worked with a different puppy a few weeks ago also. This cutie’s name is Jay! He was adorable, but now he is past the socialization phase and into the puppy training phase. He’s learning to be a real guide dog!! Here’s a picture of Jay: when we got him he was 10 weeks old.
We got the CUTEST Puppy!!
Now, we have an 8-week-old puppy named Coach. He’s smaller than Jay and has more trouble going up the stairs. He is one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen. I love him. Here are some pictures:
My morning today consisted of taking my dog Ollie Bean to the beach so he would get tired and wouldn’t mess with Coach too much. After that, I came home and took a nap because I had nothing else to do.
Basically what we have to do is “socialize” Coach. We show him what he looks like in a mirror, help him learn how to do the stairs, etc. He’s adorable and small, but he pees everywhere and barks when he’s alone and closed in his pen. Ollie LOVES Coach’s new teething toys and Coach LOVES Ollie Bean’s old teething toys, so things here are going well! As I’m writing this, he’s in his pen, but I’m on the couch and he can see me… he is not too happy.
What this has taught me –
So what I have learned in these past few days is how immense my need to be productive is. I HAVE to feel like I’m getting stuff done or else it’s really easy to feel like nothing is happening. Blogging makes me feel productive, so last night I learned how to use wordpress and what bluehost is and how to set this blog up to be as successful as it can be. Cleaning is such a productive task, that honestly I’ve been trying to clean my room every day and make it as great of a place as it can be for my mental health and mindset. Cooking is productive, but so is just watching television and relaxing. If it makes you happy and content then by all means, with all of this extra free time we have stumbled upon, do it!
Happy social distancing! Stay sane out there!
